Hand Forged 1095 Folded Steel Katana with Genuine Gunome Hamon, Japanese Silk Ito and Mother-of-Pearl Red Lacquer Saya
This handmade Japanese katana combines a hand forged 1095 folded steel blade with traditional construction and carefully selected fittings. The blade features a Shinogi-Zukuri profile, no Bo-Hi, a defined Yokote, Chu-Kissaki, and a genuine Gunome Hamon created through clay tempering and oil quenching.
The handle is traditionally wrapped with genuine Japanese silk Ito in dark blue using Hineri-Maki with Hishigami. An antiqued genuine rayskin Samegawa, bamboo Mekugi, and full tang construction complete the traditional handle structure. The sword is finished with brass fittings featuring Cranes and Plum Blossoms themes, giving the overall design a classic Japanese aesthetic.
1095 Folded Steel Blade with Genuine Gunome Hamon
The blade is made from 1095 folded steel and is hand forged, hand polished, and traditionally assembled. Its Shinogi-Zukuri blade shape gives it the familiar geometry associated with Japanese sword design, while the absence of a Bo-Hi creates a solid blade profile.
A genuine Gunome Hamon is visible along the edge of the blade. The blade is clay tempered and oil quenched, followed by Hazuya polishing. The sword comes with a very sharp cutting edge, while an unsharp version can be requested as a customization.
The blade features a Yokote and Chu-Kissaki, giving the tip a clearly defined transition and traditional katana appearance. The tang is full tang for a secure traditional construction.
Traditional Japanese Silk Tsuka-Wrapping
The tsuka is wrapped with genuine Japanese silk Ito in a dark blue color. The Hineri-Maki wrapping style is finished with Hishigami, providing a traditional appearance and carefully structured diamond-shaped wrapping pattern.
Under the wrapping, the handle uses an antiqued genuine rayskin Samegawa over a hard wood core. Two bamboo Mekugi secure the handle components to the full tang, following the traditional construction of a Japanese-style sword.
Cranes and Plum Blossoms Brass Fittings
The fittings are designed around traditional Japanese decorative themes. The brass Tsuba features a Cranes and Plum Blossoms theme, while the brass Fuchi and Kashira continue the Plum Blossoms design for a coordinated appearance.
The Menuki are made from brass with a silver-color Plum Blossoms theme, adding a subtle contrast to the dark blue silk handle wrapping.
Brass Habaki and Seppa complete the blade mounting, keeping the fittings visually consistent with the traditional design of the sword.
Red Lacquered Saya with Mother-of-Pearl Inlay
One of the most distinctive features of this katana is its high-gloss red lacquered saya. The surface is decorated with iridescent mother-of-pearl inlay, creating a rich visual effect that changes subtly with the light.
The saya is finished with buffalo horn fittings at the Koiguchi, Kojiri, and Korikata. A dark blue sageo from Japan completes the scabbard and matches the dark blue Japanese silk Ito used on the tsuka.
Hand Forged and Traditionally Handmade
This katana follows a traditional handmade production process, including hand forging, hand polishing, and hand assembly. Each stage contributes to the overall character of the finished sword.
The sword is supplied with a free sword bag and sword certificate. Buyers can also request a Mei inscription or engraving on the blade or tang at no additional charge.
